Tamil actor Kamal Haasan on Wednesday met with the national president of Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi during his trip to New Delhi, as the actor-turned-politician stepped up efforts to widen the influence of his party ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’, which’s launched at a huge public gathering in Madhurai on 21st February.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the national party president, Mr Kamal said it was just a courtesy meeting while Rahul tweeted- ‘Enjoyed meeting Kamal in Delhi today. We discussed wide range of issues concerning our two parties, including the political situation in Tamil Nadu.’

This meeting is likely to be met with large debate in Tamil Nadu, as the efforts from both NDA and UPA are underway to become a strong force in south. Also, the meeting sends out a clearly indication that Kamal is largely expected to be an ally of Congress -but not BJP-and he’s backed Rahul and was highly critical of Modi’s note ban move.
