Indians Lost ₹664 Crore To Visa Rejections In 2024

An analysis by Mint about visa application data released by several countries shows a spike in rejection rates of visitor visas post-pandemic period.

According to the analysis, Indians have lost approximately ₹664 rupees cumulatively in 2024 over visa rejections. The countries Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and UAE have made the visa policies tight and rejected more visas in the last year. Comparing the data from 2019 to that of 2024, only the USA has approved more visas in 2024 while all the remaining countries rejected more for Indians.

The US rejected 28 percent of Indian visas in 2019, while it went down to 16 percent rejections in 2024.

New Zealand rejected 32.5 percent of visas for Indians in 2024, Australia rejected 29.3 percent, the UK 17 percent, and the Schengen area rejected 15.7 percent of visas in the year 2024. The UAE has also increased the rate of rejections in visas for Indians as it went to 6 percent last year.
