Plastic Banned At Medaram Jatara

Medaram: In a good move to save the ecology of Medaram, the government is imposing a strict ban on the usage of plastic at Sammakka Saralamma Jatara and all those heading to the Jatara will not be allowed to carry plastic bags. Millions of devotees from all parts of Telangana and from neighbouring states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chattisggarh visit Medaram biennial tribal festival to offer special prayers to Godess Sammakka and Saralamma.

Looking at the huge number of people that would throng the place and sensing great damage to the environment, the district administration have decided to impose ban on plastic. In fact, every time after this tribal fair the local administration had to toil a lot to clear large chuck of garbage mostly plastic covers and bags. As it has become a cumbersome task and also posing a threat to environment, the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district administration has decided to impose strict ban on plastic.

The administration has also formed a green teams to bring awareness among the devotees. The teams will advise devotees to use plates made of leaves at the Jatara site. The district administration also directed the shops in and around Medaram not use any kind of plastic materials like carry bags, glasses, water bottles and plates all through the festival time.
