Senior Congress Leader Dharmapuri Srinivas passes away
Senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member Dharmapuri Srinivas passed away at 3 am this morning. He was ill for the last few days and was being treated at a hospital in Hyderabad. He has been away from politics for quite some time.
Dharmapuri Srinivas, popularly known as DS, rose from the bottom rung of the Congress party. He served as a minister in the Congress governments of 2004 and 2009 in the united Andhra Pradesh. He also served as PCC president for some time. He joined the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in 2015 after the formation of Telangana state and was elected to the Rajya Sabha on behalf of the BRS. He later rejoined the Congress party.
He has two sons. His elder son Dharmapuri Sanjay is a former mayor of Nizamabad. His younger son, Dharmapuri Aravind, joined the BJP. Arvind was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad for the second time in 2024
