LS Elections: AP Still Leads After 5 Phases

Voting just finished in 49 areas across six states and two Union territories in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. About 57.57% of people came out to vote this time, according to the Election Commission of India. In West Bengal, 73% of people voted, as reported until 8 pm. The fourth phase saw the highest turnout yet, with 69.2% of people voting. In the third phase, 65.68% voted. In the second phase, it was 66.71%, and in the first, 66.14%. Here are the turnout figures for some states from the recent voting: Bihar- 52.82%, Jharkhand- 63%, Ladakh- 67.15%, Maharashtra- 49.15%, Odisha- 60.87%, and Uttar Pradesh- 57.79%. Andhra Pradesh still holds the top spot for voter turnout. 80.66% of people voted using EVMs, and 4,44,216 votes were cast by employees through postal ballots. Also, 53,573 votes were cast through the vote-from-home option for elderly, disabled, and seriously ill individuals. The final voter turnout stands at 81.66%, the highest in the country for these elections. Both the ruling and opposition groups in Andhra Pradesh are hopeful about winning the elections, which saw the highest voter turnout in the first five phases in the country.
