Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, took a brief swipe at opposition Congress party while replying to motion of thanks on President’s address in Rajya Sabha. In his long speech, Modi said that Nehru had bifurcated our country into two nations with an intention to become Prime Minister of India.
He said “It hard to imagine how dangerously Hindus, Sikhs and other minority people were persecuted after country was divided.” Modi also reminded the house about Liaquat-Nehru Pact between India and Pakistan to safeguard the rights of minorities.
Modi went on to question why the former PM (Nehru), despite being a secular man, preferred to use the word ‘minorities’ over ‘citizens’. While reiterating that CAA will not trouble any religion, PM said ‘there must be some hidden agenda for Nehru to use the word minorities in the bilateral treaty’.
