Hyderabad: In a goodwill gesture, the Hyderabad police helped cremate a mother of 24-year-old Bengali youth.
12 days ago, a man from Bengal brought his mother to Hyderabad for treatment and admitted her into the Asian Gastroenterology Institute. Due to financial troubles, he couldn’t afford the hospital bills and shifted her to Osmania General Hospital where she died.
Her son Prabhath Kumar Ojaj was in tears after losing his mother and was also upset that he couldn’t afford to take her mortal remains to Bengal for cremation.
S Venkataraman, inspector of Afzalgungj said, “Our constable found Prabhath Kumar at OGH outpost who was in tears for not having money to take her mother’s body back to his home. We decided to arrange an ambulance to shift the body but they demanded Rs 40,000. I contacted some Bengali associations in the old city who helped to collect Rs 25,000 and conducted the woman’s funeral on Sunday morning at Puranapul.”
