A court in Dharmabad, Maharashtra issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. The Court has ordered Chandrababu and 14 others to be present for a hearing on the 21st of September.
The warrant was issued against Babu and 13 others in connection with the protests carried out opposing the Babli project in 2010. Babu was informed about the notices when he was offering special prayers at Tirumala today.
Meanwhile, the court’s orders have made Babu’s supporters angry. They condemned the court for slapping the arrest warrant without any prior notice in these 8 years. On the other hand, AP politics have once again intensified with the arrest warrant for Chandrababu.
In 2010, the then opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu and 40 TDP MLAs carried out a mass protest against the construction of the Babli project on Godavari in Dharmabad, Maharashtra. The TDP had alleged that North Telangana will become a desert once the project was completed. The protests ended in a lathicharge by the Maharashtra Police.
Several cases were filed against Babu and TDP MLAs under various sections. Babu was sent back to AP in a special flight However, the Maharashtra government had promised to strike of all the cases against Babu and others. In this scenario, the latest arrest warrant has come as a rude shock.
