Hyderabad: Extending the last mile connectivity for Metro Rail passengers, Smartbike Mobility Private Limited on Tuesday launched the public bike sharing system at Miyapur, JNTU, KPHB and Kukatpally Metro stations in the city.
Apart from bike stations, the company has also established feeder bike stations at Miyapur junction, JNTU Main Gate and Cyber Towers. It plans to operate 5,000 bicycles in the city in a phased manner.
All the bicycles have a fully automated docking system and are fitted with board computers and GPS connectivity. The riders can take the bicycle from any Smartbike station and return it at any Smartbike station as per their convenience, said DV Manohar, Chairman of Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC), which is an associate of Smartbike.
Apart from Metro Rail passengers, others interested in cycling can also avail the service. Riders have to register on their website or app online as a member with a deposit of Rs 500. There are weekly, monthly, six monthly and yearly passes on offer, he said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
